Amie Rohan attended last year’s Fare on the Field event as a guest.

In a change of role, this year she will be attending as a guest speaker.

The theme of this year’s event is 'courage', a word extremely relevant to Amie and her husband, Geelong star forward Gary Rohan.

“I attended Fare on the Field with a few of the Geelong girls last year and I honestly had the best day,” said Rohan.

“I’m really just looking forward to a fun day out and to be able to share my story with others who may not know anything about what Gary and I have been through.”

For those who don’t know what Gary and Amie have been through, it’s been a challenging few years.

In April 2018 the couple welcomed baby Bella into the world, whilst agonisingly saying goodbye to her twin sister Willow who died at birth of an incurable disease.

“When we found out about Willow, I was 11 weeks pregnant and we were so distraught and felt so sorry for ourselves initially.

“But by opening up and talking about what we were going through, we found our own little support system.

“People reaching out to us and sharing their similar experiences with us, and the ways they got through what we were about to face, helped us in ways we never imagined.”

Rohan is hoping that sharing her experience at this year’s event will encourage others to open up and talk about their challenges.

“These events and functions are important in spreading awareness for others out there going through their own struggles and challenges in their own day-to-day life.

“No matter how big or small, I believe getting people to talk and share the hardships they’re going through is so important in helping people find their own coping mechanisms with struggles they find themselves in.”

Fare on the Field will take place on Friday 14 February in a new evening timeslot. Tickets are still available.
