The Brownless name is back in Geelong, with the Cats selecting Oscar Brownless at pick 74 in the NAB AFL National Draft.

The son of Billy is a midfielder who can also push forward and excels in a role across a flank using his aerobic capacity to present as a target up the field.

Geelong talent ID manager Troy Selwood said Brownless hasn’t left a stone unturned in his draft preparation.

“Oscar couldn’t really have done anymore to give himself the opportunity to get drafted this year. He’s been a really consistent performer for the falcons and VIC country,” Selwood said.

“What we like about Oscar is he’s another versatile player and we’ve got no problem playing him in defence, inside or outside midfield or across half forward.”

Brownless finished with an impressive time of 6:13 minutes in the 2km time trial at the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

“He’s a great runner, he works hard both ways, and he’s really strong in the contest.  He’s a great team player, and will look after his team mate’s and cover off when their hunting up the ball,” Selwood said.

He’s really coachable and disciplined, and this kid will do everything he can to have a long successful AFL career.”
