These two teams certainly know how to put on a spectacle, with Geelong and Carlton producing one of the more enthralling rivalries in the game's history. 

There have been plenty of iconic moments etched into the minds of Cats fans everywhere, with those highlights becoming part of the club's folklore. 

The rivalry has included 12 Finals clashes, a draw in a Preliminary Final and a replay back in 1962, and close to 40 games decided by six points or less. 

Before the Cats and Blues write another chapter into the history books on Friday night, take a look back at some of Geelong's most memorable moments against Carlton. 

1. Round 11, 2002 - Riccardi After the Siren

Who could forget Peter Riccardi's famous set-shot to defeat the Blues in 2002?

With the final siren sounded and the Cats trailing by two points, Riccardi unloaded a mammoth kick from beyond the 50-metre arc, a kick that floated and wobbled towards goal, carrying over the goal line by the barest of margins to secure Geelong a remarkable victory. 

What most might forget however is just how incredible that contest was. 

The Cats were 38 points clear late in the third term, before Carlton came charging back with a run of seven unanswered goals in the last quarter to take the lead, but it mattered not as Riccardi proved to be the hero. 

2. Round 12, 2014 - The Skipper Stands Tall

There was plenty of pressure on the Cats in their 2014 clash with the Blues, coming off their biggest loss of the century at the hands of Sydney a week earlier, looking for a strong response under the roof at Marvel Stadium.

A third quarter blitz from Carlton however had Geelong on the ropes, trailing by two kicks with less than two minutes remaining in the final term. 

George Horlin-Smith snapped truly to bring the Cats back within a point, and it set the stage for Geelong's inspirational captain to stand tall in the biggest moment of the match. 

Selwood collected the ball from a stoppage 50 metres out, took two steadying steps and roosted home a perfect drop punt, splitting the big sticks and sealing the win for Geelong with what would be the final score of the game. 

3. Round 18, 2022 - Jezza Snaps Truly

There are a number of incredible things that Jeremy Cameron has made seem mundane throughout his career, such has been the remarkable talent and skill that he possesses. 

One of those skills has been his ability to snap the ball, seemingly able to curl the footy through the big sticks no matter where he is inside 50 or how tight the angle is. 

Perhaps one of his best came against the Blues in 2022, gathering the ball deep in the forward pocket, putting a little jab step in and then wheeling onto his trusty left, somehow nailing the perfect snap at a pivotal point in the match. 

Cameron kicked three on the night and helped Geelong to stave off a big challenge from Carlton, notching another victory en route to the 2022 premiership. 

4. Round 7, 2024 - Guthrie Flies High

It is always a joy for Cats fans to see a favourite son run out in the Hoops, like when Cam Guthrie made his long awaited return against the Blues in 2024. 

The Geelong champion had not played an AFL match in more than 12 months after a pair of injury-interrupted seasons, but earned his spot in the starting line-up to take on Carlton at the MCG. 

Within the first minute of the match, Guthrie made his presence known as he flew over the top of his Carlton opponent, reeling in a brilliant one-handed mark to bring the Geelong faithful to their feet. 

Guthrie went on to finish with 27 disposals as the Cats held off a fast-finishing Carlton outfit, recording a thrilling 13-point victory in front of one of the club's biggest ever home crowds. 

5. Round 7, 2025 - Danger Bulldozes, Baz Finishes

It may not have ended in the result that Geelong wanted, but there was no denying the hype and excitement that this select moment brought from the Cats' clash with the Blues in 2025. 

With Geelong mounting a charge in the final term, Mark Blicavs launched the Cats inside 50 from a centre stoppage and the ball hit the ground, with Patrick Dangerfield making a beeline for the loose footy. 

The skipper barrelled his way through a Carlton opponent at full speed, feeding the ball out to Bailey Smith and off one step from just inside 50, the superstar launched home a remarkable goal. 

6. Round 12, 2026 - Mannagh Magic from the Pocket

Earlier this year, the two sides played out another thriller at the 'G in a contest that nearly came down to the final kick of the game, with only four points separating them when the final siren sounded. 

Midway through the third quarter, the Cats and Blues were trading blows with neither able to put any separation on the scoreboard, before Shaun Mannagh produced a magic moment to flip momentum. 

Receiving the ball from a stoppage, Mannagh streamed inside 50 and despite being pinned up against the boundary line, managed to slide home the perfect kick between the big sticks.
