It is difficult to find the right terminology to describe Jack Bowes, such a unique player that is crucial to Geelong's structure and style.

He came to Kardinia Park has a highly touted prospect with an abundance of class and skill, but he proven to be a remarkable asset with his ability to play numerous roles as required, ranging anywhere from deep in defence to full forward.

A high impact player that does not need large possession counts to influence a game, Bowes is set to reach a significant milestone as he prepares for his 150th AFL game on Thursday night.

Bowes' footballing journey commenced in a vastly different environment to Geelong, featuring in northern reaches of Australia in the AFL Cairns competition as a junior.

Described as a simply dominant young talent, Bowes' AFL dreams received a significant boost when he joined the Gold Coast Suns Academy.

After an extensive stint in Cairns, a young Bowes eventually made the decision to relocate to the Gold Coast, committing more time to the Academy while also featuring for the Surfers Paradise Demons.

He would continue his stellar junior career right up until his top-age year in 2016, amassing a plethora of accolades and heading into the National Draft as one of the top rated prospects available.

With his ties to their Academy, Bowes was ultimately drafted by Gold Coast with the tenth overall pick in the draft, with the Suns choosing to match an initial bid from Sydney to secure his services.

Such was the talent at his disposal, Bowes would immediately make his AFL debut in the opening round of the 2017 season in a Q-Clash against Brisbane.

Lining up alongside the likes of Gary Ablett and Jack Martin, Bowes collected 11 disposals and almost helped the Suns to stage a phenomenal comeback, trailing by as much as 47 points before eventually falling two points short when the final siren rang.

He would go on to play 11 games in his inaugural season at the elite level, adding another 16 games in 2018 as he continued to build his game and find more of the footy.

In the COVID-affected 2020 season, Bowes recorded his first top-10 finish in Gold Coast's before taking his game to new heights in 2021, averaging a career-high 21.3 disposals and 4.7 rebounds 50s per game.

After an indifferent 2022 campaign saw him only play five games at the top level, Bowes was presented a new opportunity and Geelong welcomed him with open arms, securing the talented prospect in a trade shortly after their premiership triumph.

Bowes would make his debut in the Hoops during Geelong's Round 2 clash with Carlton in 2023, going on to feature in 17 games during his first season at the Cattery and playing a number of different roles for the team.

2024 provided more consistency as he featured in 22 matches and after eight seasons at AFL level, finally got his first taste of Finals football as he played in both of Geelong's September matches.

He was once again shifted into different roles during 2025 but particularly had a strong impact inside forward 50, able to hit the scoreboard and help set teammates up with his clean ball use and decision making.

After facing a delayed start to 2026, Bowes has made a strong impact on return averaging 19 disposals and nearly a goal per game across six matches, continuing to prove his importance in the Geelong line-up.

Bowes will celebrate his 150th AFL game on Thursday night when the Cats take on the Crows at Adelaide Oval.
