The AFL coaches votes have been released for Round 15, with Tom Atkins the lone Cat to receive a vote for his strong display against Brisbane on Friday.
Atkins fought hard all night in an effort to inspire his side finishing with 21 disposals, eight clearances and six tackles, while also registering six score involvements and five intercept possessions in a well-rounded performance.
Constantly throwing himself into contests and willing the ball forward, Atkins' commitment and attitude was perfectly highlighted in the first quarter when he refused to give up on a play, chasing down Lachie Neale and winning a holding the ball free kick.
It has been a trademark of Atkins season, currently sitting on 141 tackles for the year which is 35 tackles clear of the next best player in the competition, needing just 62 more tackles to break the all-time season record which is currently held by Scott Selwood (202 tackles).
Despite not receiving any votes this week, Bailey Smith has maintained his spot on top of the overall leaderboard, two votes clear of Gold Coast's Noah Anderson. Max Holmes currently sits in a tie for 11th on the overall leaderboard, 15 votes adrift of Smith with eight games remaining.
The AFL Coaches Association’s AFL Champion Player Award is an award voted by the 18 coaching panels on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis after each home and away game, acknowledging outstanding effort by an individual player in a season.
