It was a moment befitting of the epic contest that Saturday’s Qualifying Final win was.

A little under five minutes remaining in the third quarter, and not long after Collingwood’s Ash Johnson had extended the Magpie lead to seven, an errant Brayden Maynard kick sailed out of bounds on the full, and Jeremy Cameron, somewhere in the vicinity, broke a land-speed record to take the kick.

The degree or difficulty? 40 out, the wrong side for a left-footer and entire bay of Magpie supporters offering all kinds of feedback – enough to even make Cameron himself crack a smile.

Cameron was asked on 3AW post-match if he can recall what was being said in the moment.

“I can't repeat that,” he laughed. “I can't repeat any of that, it was a bit of a blur but there was plenty being said, let me tell you that”.

What happened next was as pure a finals moment as you’ll see.

You can see him lock in as all 91,525 people have their eyes on him. The black and white boos rain down but the Cats fans wrestle it back.

The eyes lower, the ball is squeezed at each end, and then like a perfectly thrown dart it splits the middle three quarters of the way up the post and the crowd veritably erupts.

Luke Darcy can be heard screaming from the Channel 7 commentary box: “Have a look at that! It’s like an arrow, you can’t do that!”

The Magpie fans are somehow surging even closer to the fence, before Cameron, in full Gladiator mode now, turns to the nest, a hand cupping each ear.

It was the kind of game that was defined by moments and Cameron, the best player on the ground and playing in front of the biggest crowd he’d ever played in front of, was loving every minute of it of his.

In the calm exhaustion of the rooms afterward, he said the banter over the fence was no more than a bit of theatre, and he was very happy to play along.

“[It] is what it's all about, I love that sort of thing”, he laughed.

“From my end I'm glad I steered it through and gave a little bit of cheek back.”
