Snaps from the boundary, a unique goal on the run, a clip of a heel - there have been many marvellous goals in the Cats’ short AFLW history.

Let’s start at the beginning and venture back to Round 1, 2019 when Geelong local Maddie Boyd kicked the club’s first goal in AFLW history. Boyd was awarded with a set shot from a 50 metre penalty and never looked like missing, kicking it straight through the middle from 15 metres out in front of 18,000 fans.

The club has had two Goal of the Year nominations, both coming in 2020. The first was in Round 1 against Fremantle when Rocky Cranston used her speed to break away from her opponent, took a bounce, handballed to herself, before gathering and kicking the six-pointer at top speed.

The second came in the final game of the same season against North Melbourne when Julia Crockett-Grills capitalised on a poor Kangaroos kick out of defence snapping a goal from the boundary.

One of the best individual performances the club has seen was 2019 when Kate Darby kicked three goals in the Cats’ win over Brisbane in Round 5. A goal whilst lying on the ground, a snap and a set shot from 45 metres out, highlighted the tall forward’s versatility.

In our latest season there were a few notable goals including Olivia Barber’s first goal, with her first possession, in her debut game when the ball clipped the back of her heel and dribbled over the line in Round 2 against Collingwood.

Rene Caris’ set shot after the quarter-time siren against the Gold Coast in Round 9 was a player and fan favourite as was Becky Webster’s snap in the same game on the final siren.

These are just a few and there will be more to come in just 10 days’ time.
