Recruiting and List Manager Stephen Wells.

RECRUITING and list manager Stephen Wells provided an update on Geelong’s potential trade movements when he spoke to SEN on Tuesday morning.

Here are some of the main talking points from that interview, presented by The Gordon.

Wells on Geelong’s attitude towards the trade and draft period this year…

We’ve known at some stage or other down the track in our list management and the way we handle things here at the Club that we’d have to take a different path to what we have done in recent years. This year I think it’s reasonable that we will spend more time with draft picks, going to the draft and bringing players into the Club.

A couple of reasons for that. One is we have a pretty stable list of contracted players and there are plenty of young blokes on our list that we want to try and give some more opportunities to, not just to give them games but because we think they can help us win some games of footy.

Everyone knows we’ve got an old list at the moment and we’ve had a good crack up the top. Well, we still plan to have a good crack at it, but it just might be in a different way.

Wells on the Jordan Clark negotiation with Fremantle…

It’s going well. Out of respect to Jordan’s request we are talking to Fremantle. There is still a lot to work through and Jordan understands that he is a contracted player and it would have to be a good deal for us to let him go, but that is all being worked through at the moment quite realistically I reckon.

Wells on Geelong's interest in Stengle...

We think Tyson has had a terrific period with Woodville-West Torrens, including a good performance in a premiership-winning team. We do have some interest in Tyson. We haven't committed to him yet, it's not just us who want him. Tyson will have to make that decision himself. We would be pleased if Tyson ended up at Geelong.

Wells on Ceglar interest…

The reason we made some enquiries about Jonathan is because there was some interest in Darcy Fort from another club, so yes, we have made some enquiries about Jonathan Ceglar but that would all be dependent on whether Darcy Fort stays at the Cats and that’s still to be worked through.

Wells on Charlie Constable…

We agreed in consultation with his management that we will just see what happens through trade period. We’ve got until the end of October to make some decisions on these players. We think Charlie would be a terrific player to keep around our Club but that is still to be finalised.
