PATRICK Dangerfield is set for an extended period on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his ankle.

Jeremy Cameron, Mark O'Connor and Sam Simpson all look likely to be available for selection this weekend.

Shaun Higgins has recommenced running after his hamstring strain.

Francis Evans and Cooper Stephens have made positive progress in their rehabilitation programs, while Nathan Kreuger has picked up a minor knee injury.

Patrick Dangerfield (Ankle)

Following further assessment of his injured right ankle, Geelong midfielder Patrick Dangerfield has undergone surgery.

Scans revealed a syndesmosis injury, and it was felt the best course of action was for Dangerfield to undergo surgery.

Dangerfield will be out of action indefinitely, with his rehabilitation and recovery from the injury determining his return to play.

Shaun Higgins (Hamstring/Thumb)

"Higgins has the Bennetts fracture to his thumb and he’s also had the hamstring strain," Cats GM of Football Simon Lloyd says.

"He has progressed to a splint and has commenced his hand therapy rehab. He has returned to running so we’re happy with his progress."

Francis Evans (Ankle)

"Evans basically has the ankle syndesmosis injury, he’s making good progress in his range of motion and is working through the strengthening phase," Lloyd says.

Jeremy Cameron (Hamstring)

"Jezza completed a big session on Saturday at high volume and speed, with a large part of that being football," Lloyd says.

"He trained with Sam Simpson and Harry Taylor and also completed group training with the forwards.

"We’re expecting him to be available pending getting through training in the coming days and everything being ticked off by our conditioning and medical team."

Mark O’Connor (Heel)

"Mark was out with a heel injury – he had some heel bruising. Expect him to be available," Lloyd says.

Sam Simpson (Quad)

"Sammy Simpson is nearing full recovery, he had a big session with Jeremy last Saturday," Lloyd says.

"He’s available pending physio and conditioning staff assessment during the week."

Simpson confirmed his availability as a special guest on this week's podcast.

Cooper Stephens (Knee)

"Cooper had the medial ligament strain, he’s working through his rehab and progressing well," Lloyd says.

Nathan Kreuger (Knee)

"His left knee has presented some issues, it’s a minor issue," Lloyd says.

"We’re consulting some specialists."
