The Geelong Cats have teamed up with The Food Purveyor and Foodbank Victoria to help Victorians in need during the current bushfire crisis.

On Thursday, players and staff will visit The Food Purveyor in Geelong to accept and sort critical items to be donated to Foodbank Victoria.

The club is calling on supporters to get behind this great initiative if they can, with donations going towards Foodbank Victoria's bushfire emergency food relief appeal to help families affected by the bushfires.

Critical items to donate include cereal, pasta sauces and simmer sauces, rice, pasta, tinned food (with a ring pull), noodles, muesli bars and other ready-to-go foods, feminine hygiene products and personal care products.

Geelong Cats Chief Executive, Brian Cook, said the club as a whole had been moved by the crisis and are eager to assist in any way they can.

“As a club with such a strong connection to community, it has been with much sadness we have watched the scenes of devastation and loss affecting so many parts of Australia currently,” Cook said.

“However, we have also been inspired and moved by the incredible acts of bravery, compassion and mateship shown by our emergency services heroes and everyday Australians.”

“Whilst it will take a significant amount of time for these communities to get back on their feet, we want them all to know they have our support and we’ll be doing all we can to assist.”

Foodbank Victoria is the State’s official emergency food and water relief organisation, under the State Emergency Relief and Recovery Plan. As fires broke out across East Gippsland, they immediately responded, delivering urgent food relief and water to those affected areas via air, sea, and road.

As the crisis grows, thousands more Victorians, including firefighters, are in desperate need of food relief and water. They need urgent financial donations to continue providing vital food and water to Victorian families affected by the bushfires.

With conditions expected to worsen over the coming weeks, this is going to be a long and ongoing situation and we require all the assistance we can during this devastating time.

Geelong fans can donate items to the address below between 10am and 3pm on Thursday or make a cash donation here.
