A pair of mature-age recruits shared the spoils from the weekend’s AFLCA voting, after both men set or equalled career highs in the win over the Magpies.

Sam Menegola and Tom Stewart secured nine votes apiece from the men in the coaches’ boxes.

Stewart gathered a career-best 28 disposals to go with seven rebounds 50s and nine marks as he managed to elevate his game yet again after a glittering start to the season.

Menegola booted three goals for the fourth time in his 38-game career, showing off his ability to turn a match at critical stages from both the midfield and forward half.

“Both sides were pretty inaccurate, so it just made goals that little bit more valuable so to get a couple at that stage (of the match) was good,” Menegola said.

The win against the Pies was an important one given the club’s record in recent games.

“Collingwood have knocked us off a few times and they’re in form so any time you can grind out a win against guys like that it’s really good,” he said.

“I think it was a pretty consistent performance through the game so that was also really, really pleasing.”

Esava Ratugolea snared two votes for his high-marking performance that saw him in contention for the round eight Mark of the Year nomination.

Tim Kelly – another mature-age recruit – also featured in the AFLCA voting as he received one vote for his 22 touches and six inside 50s.
