With an enormous elimination final looming this Sunday for Geelong, dominant young star Rebecca Webster will be one of the key players to watch for the Cats following a strong season across half back.

After missing the opening three games of the season with a hamstring injury, Webster found a new home down back and became a pivotal factor in the back half of the season.

Averaging a career high 18 disposals per game, the 23 year old was consistently among the Cats best while also pushing forward to hit the scoreboard in two of the last four games.

Joining Geelong for their inaugural AFLW season in 2019, the star defender has played a big role in the Cats rapid rise as they prepare for their second consecutive finals appearance.

Webster said that this year has been huge not only for her growth as a footballer, but for the development of the team heading into another post season.

“I love being part of this group,” Webster said.

“The change and the development across my time here at the club has been astronomical, just to see the girls grow has been amazing to watch.

"I feel like every season we seem to grow closer and closer, and you can see that on the field.

"It has been great to be part of the rise, and I feel like there is no limit on what we can achieve this season and beyond.

"Missing the first three games this year I got to learn a lot sitting up with the coaches, seeing the game from a different perspective which was awesome.

"It feels like we are just getting started.”

The Cats will face Essendon in a blockbuster elimination final this Sunday, marking the second meeting between the two teams this year.

Geelong fell short against the Bombers in round six, but enter this week in terrific form after two big wins against Richmond and Hawthorn.

Webster said the team has been able to learn and grow off the back of their last meeting with the Bombers, helping them to prepare for this weekend.

“Playing Essendon earlier in the season and playing arguably one of our worst games as well, we have been able to learn a lot from that,” Webster said.
