Developing small defender Abbey McDonald showed she can be a valuable prospect the Cats following an impressive 2023 VFLW campaign. An attacking defender, McDonald showed plenty of encouraging signs across her first seven appearances in the Hoops at VFLW level. In what was her first stint of senior football, the 19-year-old showed composure and good skills, taking the game on and assisting the team with its transition from defence to attack. Will be looking to break through for her first AFLW appearance in 2023.

Geelong Football Club acknowledges Wadawurrung as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Land on which our club, our families and our communities work and play. We pay our respects to Elders of the past, the present, and those that will lead their collective future. Kardinyu, in Wadawurrung language is the place of the morning sun, a place of deep cultural connection and significance, a meeting place since the beginning of time. We are honoured to walk with the Wadawurrung People, to listen, respect and talk together on our journey on Wadawurrung Country.
