With an 8-3 record and in third position on the ladder at the mid-season bye, the Cats are well placed for a tilt at the top four in 2017.

But before we turn for home, the break gives us a chance to reflect as Cats Media asks you, the fans, to have your say in our Mid-season Awards.

In our first instalment we asked, which win has been the Cats’ best so far in 2017?

Now we want to know who gets your vote in our “Half-Way Carji” – i.e. if the club’s best and fairest was awarded today, who would win?

Let’s look at the contenders before casting your vote below:

Joel Selwood

For a player so good for so long, it’s hard to believe this is Joel Selwood’s best season. But it is.

Averaging a career-high 29.3 disposals, Selwood is ranked third in the AFL for total clearances and average contested possessions, while ranked second for total contested possessions. The 29-year-old has also shortened across all betting markets to become one of the favourites for the Brownlow Medal.

But the numbers don’t come close to telling the story for Joel Selwood in 2017.

There is no more courageous player, no better leader in the game than he and in those two areas Selwood has gone to another level. His ability to impact and change a game has never been greater and if the Cats are to succeed this year, it’s Selwood who will have the largest say.

Patrick Dangerfield

Measured by the loftiest of standards, some have considered Dangerfield’s start to be “slow” as he battled manfully through an early-season rib injury. That a player averaging 29.6 disposals and one ranked first in the AFL for contested possessions, average contested possessions and total clearances could be questioned seems ludicrous, but we have come to expect so much from the 27-year-old.

Easily still the best player in the game, last year’s Brownlow medallist is also still this year’s outright favourite. He’s racking up the numbers, kicking three and four goals regularly from the midfield and doing things on the football field no one else can.

If this is what Patrick Dangerfield can produce when his body is battered and bruised, imagine what the week off will do for him.

Zach Tuohy

What a revelation the Irishman has been for the Cats.

Having lost the greatest half back of all time in Corey Enright, Geelong went right out and nabbed Zach Tuohy from Carlton. Though careful not compare the two, the transition has been as seamless as could be hoped.

Arguably the best kick at the club, Tuohy is setting the Cats up from defence with precision. Though the shackles have been released and the 27-year-old is allowed the freedom with which to be one of the side’s most important playmakers, Tuohy can still nullify his opponent when necessary. Just ask Eddie Betts.

Averaging 26.4 disposals in his first year at Simonds Stadium and already a walk-up start for the All-Australia top 40, it’s not out of the realms of possibility that we’ll see even more from Tuohy as the Cats start their run home.
