With an 8-3 record and in third position on the ladder at the mid-season bye, the Cats are well placed for a tilt at the top four in 2017.

But before we turn for home, the break gives us a chance to reflect as Cats Media asks you, the fans, to have your say in our Mid-season Awards.

First, we ask: which win has been the Cats' best so far in 2017?

Round 5 – def. St Kilda by 38 points @ Etihad Stadium

After four wins marred by inconsistency, the Cats put in their most complete performance yet to remain undefeated after five rounds.

A two point half time margin to the Saints was only increased to five at three quarter time, largely in part to the heroics of Geelong skipper Joel Selwood. The Geelong skipper singlehandedly weathered the storm and stepped up in the critical moments, collecting 15 of his 43 disposals in the third term as St Kilda threw all they had at his side.

The Cats banged on eight goals in the final quarter to put the game to bed an run out 38 point winners, while Selwood locked away three Brownlow votes.

Round 9 – def. Western Bulldogs by 23 points @ Simonds Stadium

Criticised not only for their three-game skid but for a pitiful tackling effort against Essendon the week prior, the Cats celebrated the opening of the new $91 million Charles Brownlow Stand by putting the reigning premier to the sword in round nine.

Laying 28 tackles in the first term, Geelong finished the game with a club-record 134. 17 of those were from Scott Selwood in his first senior game for the year, while Patrick Dangerfield collected 36 disposals, 12 tackles of his own, 10 clearances and four goals.

The Dogs rallied from a 26-point half time deficit to lead by nine at three quarter time, but a five-goal haul from Harry Taylor as the game’s most dominant forward ensured the Cats found their way back onto the winner’s list.

Round 11 – def. Adelaide Crows by 22-points @ Simonds Stadium

The Cats went in as underdogs on their own turf in round 11, as the hottest team in the competition rolled into town.

Billed as a first versus third blockbuster, the contest never lived up to the hype as Geelong completely outplayed the ladder-leading Crows in all areas of the ground.

Joel Selwood was phenomenal once again, copping a stray elbow to the head which split open the captain in bloody fashion, but he continued on in typical fashion with 35 disposals (21 contested).

His brother Scott Selwood curbed the influence of Adelaide star Rory Sloane while Patrick Dangerfield booted three goals from the midfielder to go with his 31 disposals.

Taking their foot somewhat off the gas in the final term, the Cats allowed the Crows to flatter the score line but the damage had been done for a 22-point victory.
