Zach Guthrie is already turning heads at the Cattery.

The 18-year-old brother of star Cat Cameron Guthrie was taken by Geelong with pick 33 in the rookie draft.

And although his light frame will take time to develop, he has made a big impact on the training track.

"He can really move, and reads the play similar to the way Cam does," Jackson Thurlow said on the season-ending episode of PodCats.

"I think there's a lot of similarities between them.

"A few times [in match-practice at training] he's been behind the ball and all of a sudden he comes through and intercepts and takes the game on."

A dashing defender, Zach Guthrie recently finished runner-up in the Calder Cannons' best and fairest after an impressive season in the TAC Cup.

And the younger Guthrie has set his sights on becoming an even better player than Cam.

"I will take advice from him but I want to be my own sort of player," Zach told the Herald Sun.

Zach will spend next season living with Cam in Newtown, just 500m from Simonds Stadium.

“It’s just awesome that we are teammates now," Cam said. "Six years is a big age gap so we didn’t play footy together in juniors.

“I used to beat Zach up a bit but now he’s taller than me. If he can catch me weight-wise he will be a force to deal with.”

Another of their brothers, Josh, will also be spending time at the Cattery as he is trying out for the VFL squad.
