YOUNG defender Jed Bews has become the latest Geelong player to re-sign with the club.

The 21-year-old, who has played 20 AFL games since debuting last year, has signed a new two-year contract that ties him to the Cats until the end of the 2017 season.

"I'm very excited about that," Bews told CatsTV. "It was just a matter of time before we got it all sorted out, which was good.

"There was no real decision. As soon as they offered [me a contract] I was more than happy to take it."

Bews was recruited by the Cats as a father-son selection (pick 86) in the 2011 national draft.

His father, Andrew, played 207 games in the hoops between 1982 and 1993, captaining the club in 1990 and '91.

"It's great to keep that name at Geelong," Bews said.

Bews has been among the Cats' most improved players this season.

He has played every game and has had the better of some of the competition's best small forwards.

He joins Tom Hawkins, Jackson Thurlow, Jordan Murdoch and Darcy Lang as players who have recently re-signed with the club.
