Geelong champion Jimmy Bartel has launched an appeal to raise funds for awareness and support of domestic violence (DV) victims.

Bartel's “Face Up To DV” campaign, will see him forgo shaving his face and cutting his hair for the entire 2016 AFL season in hopes of sparking conversation around the epidemic.

In a revealing interview with Hamish McLachlan for the Sunday Herald Sun, Bartel spoke of the toll domestic violence took on his family with his father routinely verbally and physically assaulting his mother and he and his two sisters.

Bartel spoke of the hope that by letting his grooming go unchecked in such a public position it would force people to have conversations around domestic violence in their community. The Luke Batty Foundation and Bethany, a Geelong based family services organisation, will split the funds raised through the appeal.

The Bendigo Bank has set up an account to receive the funds and people can donate by clicking here or by donating within any Bendigo Bank branch.*

Please be aware there may be some delays in processing payments that may not be resolved until Tuesday March 29.
