The AFL has announced that its heat policy has been enacted for the Geelong versus Essendon NAB Challenge clash in Shepparton on Saturday afternoon.

As a result, the match will have shortened quarters (22 minutes plus any extended delay) and increased quarter breaks.

The breaks at quarter-time and three-quarter time will be eight minutes, while the half-time break will last for 25 minutes.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a top temperate of 38 degrees in Shepparton on Saturday.

The game, which will begin at 2.05pm, will be played in the hottest part of the day.
