JOEL SELWOOD has been nominated for the Coates Hire Goal of the Year for his inspirational fourth quarter goal against Melbourne Football Club on Sunday.

With less than 8 minutes remaining, the Cats skipper scooped up the ball after a centre bounce, shurgged off opponent Jack Viney and sped away.

Selwood took a bounce and was simply too quick for the Demons midfielders, kicking towards goal just outside the centre square as Jack Watts lured on his heels.

The ball bounced five metres before the line and then sailed through for a goal, but not before Steve Johsnon resisted the urge to toe poke it through and steal the 6-points.

Simonds Stadium errupted from the glimer of hope the captain's goal provided as the margin became 20-points, but were left disappointed as the Demons replied with a goal and spoiled the #Boris300 party.

Selwood had a tough day by his own standards, finishing with 17 disposals (at 58.8% efficiency), 6 clearances, 6 tackles.
