CATS star James Kelly will be sidelined for at least a month by the ruptured testicle he suffered during last weekend's win over Richmond at the MCG.

Kelly underwent surgery on Saturday night and was in good spirits when CatsTV caught up with him at his home in Geelong on Tuesday morning.

"It's a little bit dependent on my pain," Kelly said. "I can't do really any sort of training for a couple of weeks, just to make sure it heals up properly and doesn’t re-rupture.

"Then it will probably take me a couple of weeks to get going again."

Kelly is not expecting to have any long-term repercussions from his injury, but he said the pain he felt when it happened was excruciating.

"I remember taking the mark and sort of landing on my stomach," he said.

"Just a fair bit of pain. I remember thinking, 'It's okay, I’ve been hit in the nuts before. It’ll go away.'

"And then after a little while when it didn't go away I thought maybe something was wrong.

"I've been told [the pain from rupturing a testicle is] close to childbirth, but I can’t say that too much seeing my wife just gave birth.

"But yeah, it was pretty painful."

Kelly's predicament has been the source of much humour for the people close to him and the many Cats fans who follow him on Twitter.
