The Geelong VFL side’s opening clash of the 2015 VFL season has been moved due to an unfit playing surface at Avalon Airport Oval.

The clash with the Werribee Tigers for the K-Rock Cup will now be played this Friday night, April 17, at Simonds Stadium beginning at 7.30pm.

A final inspection held at Avalon Airport on Thursday morning saw the decision made to move the clash due to an unstable center circle area.

Geelong Cats VFL manager Troy Selwood said the two clubs would now flip their home games this season with the Cats previous home game against Werribee on Saturday July 11 now to be played at Avalon Airport Oval as an away match.

“Ultimately our players’ safety is our primary concern so we are happy a decision has been made to play at Simonds Stadium this week.” Selwood said.

“We hope all our fans will take the opportunity to come and watch a Simonds Stadium night game this Friday.”

Entry to the ground will be via the Polly Farmer Gate on Moorabool St and seating will be available only in the Reg Hickey Stand.

Polly Farmer Gate opens from 6.30pm
