Okay, so we all know the Cats didn't exactly set the world on fire in their 30-point win over Essendon at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

Given the game was such a ragged affair, the highlight of the day for many people was the Powercor Country Program festivities in Yarra Park prior to the opening bounce.

But positives can be found in even the most underwhelming results.

One is that the Cats won the match.

This improved their win-loss record to 3-1 after four rounds and sees them now sitting fourth on the ladder.

Another was the performance of the backline.

Geelong restricted Essendon to just 42 points, which was the Bombers' lowest score against the Cats since they registered only 35 points at the MCG in round 11, 1989.

The Cats' key defenders played a starring role in keeping the Dons to such a miserly total.

Tom Lonergan, who was back in the side after missing the win over Lions, shut down Joe Daniher, while Harry Taylor and Lachie Henderson were also impressive.

Which leads us to this week's poll.

Vote below for the player who you believe was the Cats' best defender on Saturday.
