Geelong's first match against the Eagles in round 12 1987 at Kardinia was one of the most evenly contested matches on the scoreboard ever played. It was one of only 12 played (three involving the Cats) from 1897 to now where each quarter was won by no more than three points. Geelong won the first by three points, West Coast the second by three and the Cats the last two quarters each by three points to win 13.13-91 vs 12.13-85. (The most even scoreboard at Kardinia Park is the one from round 1 1967.  Geelong playing Collingwood won the first two quarter by three points and one point and the third quarter was even - 3.3-21 each. Collingwood won the last quarter by three to fall short after Bill Ryan's after the siren goal saw the Cats win 13.13-91 to 13.12-90.)



Geelong lost 14 of their first 18 matches against the Eagles 1987-1994 including the 1992 and 94 Grand Finals, a preliminary final and a semi-final. In the 28 matches since then, Geelong have won 18 and West Coast nine with one drawn.

Since 1994, West Coast's greatest points deficit is against Geelong - 785 points.

Although Geelong have won one fewer matches against West Coast than the Eagles have won against them, the Cats have won 20 more quarters - 99 to West Coast's 79 with six even.



The highest score conceded by West Coast at Subiaco Oval is Geelong's 28.14-182 round 13, 2008. Next highest: Melbourne's 26.14-170 in round 22 2000.

West Coast's biggest loss at Subiaco Oval is the 135 point defeat by Geelong in round 13, 2008. Next biggest: 89 points vs Essendon round 21 2001.

 The lowest score that West Coast has been kept to at Subiaco Oval is 6.5-41 by Geelong in round 21, 2013. Next lowest: 5.13-43 vs Adelaide round 23 2013.

Geelong have lost 8 matches to West Coast at Kardinia Park but only once since 1999 - round 10 2006 by 3 points after leading by 36 at 3/4 time.

The highest attendance at Kardinia Park for a Geelong vs West Coast match is 25,585 in round 19, 1992.




Geelong turned the 80 point loss in the 1994 Grand Final into a 52-point win at Kardinia Park in the Grand Final rematch in round 13 1995.

Geelong's biggest loss to West Coast this century is 22 points at Subiaco Oval in round 2 2005.

Geelong's narrowest winning margin over the Eagles is six points in their first match in 1987 and in round 2 1997.

Geelong's 36-point lead three-quarter time over the Eagles in round 10 2006 was their largest in a match that they lost until 38 points in round 13 2013 vs Brisbane.

The only draw between the two in round 20 2003 is the only draw with each team scoring 9.9-63 and one of nine where Geelong had the same goal and behind tally as their opponent.

Of teams that Geelong have played five or more finals against, their lowest win% is against West Coast - 20% (1/5).



Geelong has the highest percentage of seasons with a For and Against percentage for the compete season of over 133%. Next highest: Collingwood 17.09%. (Nth Melbourne and Western Bulldogs/Footscray have never had a final percentage over 133.)

Geelong have finished ahead of West Coast on the final season ladder 13 times in the 27 years that they have competed together.
