LACHIE Henderson says he is delighted to be returning home to the Geelong area.

The 25-year-old was confirmed as a Cats player after a trade deal with Carlton was finalised on Wednesday.

"I’m excited to join the club and return to Geelong, which is an area I know well,” Henderson said from New York where he is enjoying an off-season holiday.

“I have always respected the way the Cats go about things.

“It will be great to line up with them and play whatever role they need me to play.

“The club has a great history of success and I want to help continue that tradition.”

Henderson also took time to thank the Blues, where he played 102 of his 117 games.

“I really enjoyed my time at Carlton and made great friendships and learnt a lot,” he said. “I wish them all the best.”

Geelong coach Chris Scott was rapt to add Henderson to the club’s list, which now also includes superstar midfielder Patrick Dangerfield and former West Coast onballer Scott Selwood.

“We are really pleased to be adding Lachie to our team,” Scott said.

“He has great versatility and skill and has also showed good leadership over his career.

“He will give us more options in how we set up and is another quality player that has wanted to join our club.

“To add Lachie to the players we have already secured during the trade period is really exciting for everyone associated with the club.”
