MARK Blicavs has emerged as a popular pick to win this year’s ‘Carji’ Greeves Medal, which will be awarded on Thursday, October 8.

Steven Motlop, Cameron Guthrie, Corey Enright and Joel Selwood are others considered in the mix for the award, but Blicavs should be the favourite, according to Herald Sun reporter Scott Gullan.

“Mark Blicavs wins the Carji Greeves,” Gullan said on the last episode of PodCats for the season.

“Who would ever have thought? Unbelievable.

“I would have S Motlop flying home for second, and you can raffle third.”

THE ‘CARJI’ CONTENDERS
MARK BLICAVS
The athletic big man featured in all of the Cats’ 21 matches and was a very consistent performer while playing in a variety of roles. Averaged 18 disposals, five marks, six tackles, 16 hit-outs and 97 AFL Fantasy points per game.

STEVEN MOTLOP
Featured in 20 of the Cats’ 21 games (he missed round two after copping a club-imposed suspension) and finished the season very strongly after a slowish start. Averaged 22 disposals and four marks per match while playing in the midfield and occasionally up forward. Also kicked 26 goals, placing him third on the club’s goalkicking table behind Tom Hawkins (46) and Steve Johnson (30).

CAMERON GUTHRIE
Was a consistent performer in the midfield and down back. Played every game and registered a number of career-highs (his 33 disposals against Adelaide in round 23 was one of them). Averaged 22 disposals and five tackles per match.

COREY ENRIGHT
The decorated veteran, who won the best and fairest in 2009 and 2011, was again among Geelong’s best performers, reading the play and using the ball with aplomb across half-back. Averaged 23 disposals, seven marks and three tackles per game.

JOEL SELWOOD
The three-time winner of the Carji Greeves Medal didn’t enjoy his best season, but his numbers are still compelling. Averaged 25 disposals, six tackles and 98 AFL Fantasy points per game. Also kicked 14 goals.
