Well, it was a weekend of footy that included plenty of upsets and classic finishes.

There was Collingwood's last-gasp victory over Richmond, Essendon's unexpected win over Melbourne and the Gold Coast Suns' triumph over Fremantle in Perth.

Then there was Geelong's 13-point loss to the Giants in Canberra.

It was a very disappointing result for the Cats, just six days after their brilliant win over Hawthorn on Easter Monday.

But there's no shame in being beaten by Greater Western Sydney these days.

Leon Cameron's team is chock full of talent, and many of his younger players now have three or four seasons of AFL footy under their belts.

The Giants also boast some quality experienced players, including Ryan Griffen, whose 32 touches and two goals were crucial in a close contest.

Steve Johnson also produced a typically mercurial performance in his first game against the Cats, snapping a couple of goals and racking up 23 disposals and 111 AFL Fantasy Points.

Stevie J showed a lot of class after the game as well when he commented to Fox Footy's Barry Hall that he doesn't take any great satisfaction out of seeing the Cats lose.

He later spoke to the media in the Giants' rooms and said: "I'm really comfortable that I'm a GWS Giants player now, but then the Geelong team song comes on and you get some mixed feelings."

No doubt, the Cats will be rueing the early part of the game, when they dominated on the stats sheet but weren't able to convert their dominance into a handy lead on the scoreboard.

But after slipping six goals behind during the third quarter, they showed great fight to work their way back into the contest and almost snatch it in a frantic finish.

While leaves us to ponder, what were the highlights of Geelong's performance?

The display from Tom Hawkins was one. He was a towering presence early, then kicked what might end up being the goal of the year in the last quarter (watch it by clicking on the video player at the top of the page).

The way Mitch Duncan kept his eye on the ball while Giants big man Shane Mumford was coming at him like a freight train was another highlight.

Duncan ended up copping one of the biggest hits of the season to date.

And how about Chris Scott's no-nonsense press conference after the game.

He's a man who doesn't accept excuses, and he knew that Cats were beaten not by the six-day break leading into the match, but by a side that was better when it mattered.
