Daniel Menzel will continue to build his fitness in the coming weeks as he eyes off a berth in the Cats' team to play Fremantle in the opening round of the premiership season.

The dynamic forward made his first appearance in the JLT Community Series in the loss to Adelaide on Sunday, finishing with two kicks and two goals, one of which was a supergoal.

"I blew up a little bit," he told K-Rock after the game.

"I've probably only been in full training for a month now, so I haven't had probably the four or five months of pre-season that most of the boys have.

"For me, it was really nice just to get back out there. I blew up after a couple of efforts every time ... but it was nice to finish with a couple of goals."

The highlight for Menzel on Sunday was playing in the same game as his brother Troy, who looked good up forward for the Crows.

"In the five years ... that we've both been in the AFL system, we'd never played AFL on the same weekend," Menzel explained.

"So to actually play against each other was pretty special, and obviously back home too in front of all the family and friends."
