The VFL Cats have named a strong team to play Werribee at Simonds Stadium at midday on Saturday.

Mitch Clark and Darcy Lang return to the side after playing in the AFL last weekend, while Cam Delaney (foot) and Wylie Buzza (hip flexor) return after overcoming injuries.

Jock Cornell and Matthew Hayball are back after being managed last weekend.

The VFL Cats have lost Rhys Stanley, Shane Kersten and Josh Cowan, who have earned well-deserved call-ups to the AFL team, while Ryan Williams is out due to a fractured thumb.

Leigh Spiteri, from the Darley Football Club, has been selected as the Cats' 23rd player. The 23rd player rule is designed to enable clubs to promote young talent and provide them with a taste of VFL football to aid their development.

The VFL Cats sit seventh on the ladder, while Werribee is 11th.

Werribee's link to North Melbourne has resulted in AFL-listed players Robin Nahas, Ryan Clarke, Aaron Black, Joel Tippett, Will Fordham, Kayne Turner and Ben McKay playing for the Tigers at various stages this season.

The Tigers also have a strong Geelong connection, with a number of local players plying their trade up the highway as VFL-listed players.

Michael Sodomacco (Lara), Joe Maishman (St Mary’s) and ex-Geelong VFL listed players Tom Gribble (Geelong West-St Peters) and Dane McFarlane (Newtown & Chilwell) are on Werribee's list.
