This year Scott Gullan puts Tom Hawkins on top of the podium as the most important player, with young Cat Steven Motlop sitting on the one just below.

“I think he’s running second to Tom Hawkins,” Gullan told Cats TV.

On Sunday Motlop delivered a career best performance of 30 touches against the Dogs, as well as five marks, three inside-50s and two goal assists. He was just missing the goal to top it all off.

“We know how good he was last year, he was complementing other people and now he’s virtually the man.”

According to Scott Gullan, Steven Motlop is a more versatile version of the speedy Hawk Cyril Rioli.

“I always go back to the Cyril Rioli comparison, Cyril doesn’t find the ball that many times and people rave about him, this kid does what Cyril does and gets it 30 times,” Gullan said.

“His creativity is what’s so important to this team right now.”
