In hopefully a sign of success for his new team in 2014, Cats rookie Michael Luxford has finished off his basketball career the best possible way, winning a U20 national championship for Victoria.

Luxford, who also won a national championship with the side last year, put up the final shot, a three pointer, to ice the game against Queensland.

It was a successful tournament for the  18-year-old who averaged 9.7 points and 5.8 assists across the six matches in the tournament. They were the best numbers he had put up in three consecutive years of the national championships.

Luxford took to Instagram following the win.

"No better way to finish my basketball career then winning a national championship! Thank you everyone" Luxford posted.

Luxford will now put an end to his basketball career to focus on AFL.
