Rhys Stanley helped deliver the GMHBA Healthy Heroes program at Winchelsea Primary School.

GMHBA Healthy Heroes is empowering scores of primary school students to make healthy decisions as the program continues its delivery in 2023.

Part of the Cats Community suite of programs, GMHBA Healthy Heroes is delivered to Grade 3/4 students and aims to empower them to make healthy decisions when it comes to nutrition, being active, sleep, screen time and wellbeing.

The program, which began in 2017, is on track to be delivered in 100 schools across Geelong, Colac and Warrnambool this year, with more than 7,500 students receiving the positive health messages.

The Cats men’s and women’s players have been assisting with the program delivery in schools within the Geelong region in recent months.

Cats AFLW players are also set to return to Colac to deliver the program in August, and will take GMHBA Healthy Heroes to Warrnambool for the first time in line with their Round 6 Country Game against Essendon as the club looks to increase its support of the AFL Western District region.

Geelong Cats Head of Community Will McGregor said the program is popular with players and students alike.

“The GMHBA Healthy Heroes program is a fun mix of education and games, with kids learning important skills to look after their health and make healthy decisions,” McGregor said.

“The players enjoy getting out in the community and sharing their passion for health and movement with the next generation, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with our community.”
