Shaun Higgins in action for Victoria.

Geelong Recruiting and List Manager Stephen Wells is ‘hopeful’ a trade for Jeremy Cameron with GWS will get done prior to the end of the trade period on Thursday night.

"We're still working on it and both parties are hopeful that it can happen," Wells told SEN.

“We want to try and make sure GWS do better than they would have with the free agency compensation. Our first-round draft picks are the ones that are going to help in that scenario.

"There’s combinations (of Geelong’s picks 13, 15 and 20) available and things coming back the other way as well."

Wells also said it's up to the Giants now and there is still the option of the Pre-Season Draft.

"I know we can facilitate whatever we need to pick Jeremy in the pre-season draft, but we hope it doesn’t get to that."

Wednesday was a busy day on the trade front for the Cats with one arrival and two departures.

It started in the morning with Lachie Fogarty and Nakia Cockatoo moving to new clubs.

The Cats traded Fogarty and selection 38 to Carlton in return for picks 30 and 51 in this year’s national draft.

Cockatoo moved to the Brisbane Lions in return to a future third round pick from Melbourne (pick acquired by Lions in an earlier trade).

“We have really enjoyed having both Lachie and Nakia at our club and wish them well at their new teams,” Wells told Cats media.

The Cats then used the pick 30 they secured from Carlton in a trade with North Melbourne for Shaun Higgins.

“We have always liked Shaun as a player and we are happy that we could work with Shaun, his management and North Melbourne to get this trade completed."

“Shaun is a very talented and accomplished player, and he can fill a number of roles.

"We are looking forward to seeing him in Geelong colours.”

Higgins joins triple premiership winning Hawk Isaac Smith as a new Cat after he signed for Geelong during the free agency window.

“He has obviously had a brilliant career with Hawthorn, but he was ready for a change and he is just a bit different to what we already had on our list, but we are very excited that Isaac is going to be joining us.”

The Trade Period will officially conclude on Thursday at 7.30pm AEDT.
