Mitch Duncan has received a perfect 10 votes from the coaches to move into outright first in the race for the Gary Ayres Award.

Duncan was outstanding in Geelong's 40-point preliminary final win against the Lions with 22 disposals and nine score involvements.

His maximum haul of votes took his finals tally to 19 to hold a one vote lead on Tiger Dustin Martin, with the two set to fight it out for the award in the Grand Final.

Eight players shared the remaining votes such was the even contribution across the board on the night.

Brandan Parfitt was tough in the contest and was rewarded with four votes from Chris Scott and Chris Fagan.

The 22-year-old had 14 disposals, seven tackles and kicked a goal.

Jake Kolodjashnij received three votes after keeping Charlie Cameron quiet for three quarters after the star Lion kicked two goals in the opening term.

Sam Menegola also received three votes after another consistent performance, while captain Joel Selwood and Jack Henry collected two apiece.

The Gary Ayres Award is presented in recognition of the player who has been adjudged as the best player throughout the AFL Finals series, as voted by the Coaches on a weekly basis throughout the duration of the AFL Finals Series.
