Rhys Stanley is aiming to build on his impressive Round 2 performance against the Hawks.

The former Saint excelled in the contested areas of the game and pushed forward to kick two goals.

Throughout his 134-game career to date, Stanley acknowledges that 'consistency' hasn't been his strong suit, but it is something he is working hard at improving.

"That is something I have been focusing on for a while," Stanley said at Friday morning's press conference at GMHBA Stadium.

"One performance isn't going to cut it, so I think I need to make that the standard and try and back up each week."

After missing out on selection in Round 1, Stanley used the shutdown period to his advantage and zoned in on improving some key areas of his game.

“I definitely had time to think things over and really concentrate on parts of my game I really wanted to work on."

“And that follow-up (work) and contested part of my game was definitely part of it. I guess you could call it a bit of a blessing.

“If someone didn’t call it motivation, they would probably be lying a little bit.

“Missing out hurt, so I wanted to perform and earn the spot.”

Stanley’s next challenge is 202cm Carlton ruck Marc Pittonet.

“He’s a good player; I rate him as a ruckman,” Stanley said.

“It’s probably (been) opportunity for him. He’s been sitting with Benny McEvoy (in front of him).

“He’s been at Hawthorn for a while and performed really well at VFL level, so I think it’ll be a big challenge.

“He’s a big strong body, covers the ground pretty well, follows up really well."

Saturday night's encounter at the Blues at GMHBA Stadium will kick-off at 7.40pm.
