Joel Selwood wants to win it all for his teammates.

GEELONG captain Joel Selwood has revealed that his appetite for success is just as big as ever as he heads into his fourteenth season of AFL football.

The record-breaking captain now thrives on the success of others.

“The hunger is definitely still there... the fire in the belly is still there,” Selwood says.

“I want to win it for Patty, I want to win it for Gaz (Ablett) who has come back and I want to win it for guys like Tom Stewart and Tom Atkins who have come through the VFL system.”

“It is so special and we have had guys live different lives to come to this stage.

“But we are at the point where we think we are in a window where we can really have a crack at it.”

As Selwood nears his 300th game, he cares less about seeing the words premiership captain on his resume.

“It would be great when I am looking back on it when I am 50 years old, but right now it is just one of those things that I am dying to do to share it with everyone else,” he said.

“Walking away from the game with that title, I don’t want to say it wouldn’t mean that much to me, but there are more important reasons I want to do it.

“There are my teammates who I want to see have a premiership next to their name, but it is going to have to come together, which is exciting.

“We are ready. We just have to stay healthy and get it right and get some luck along the way.”

Experience has also allowed Selwood to understand that falling just short in recent years doesn’t mean complete failure.

“We have not just been a number, we have been right up there,” he say.

“We have to understand there are 17 other sides out there who are competing so hard.

“They are getting fit and ready right now and trying to knock off us and the other sides that are in it. Premierships are so hard to win and the proud thing along my journey is that we have been there to compete for the majority of it.

“Would it be nice to have some cream on the top at the end? Obviously it would, but there are 17 other sides who are saying that too.
