Geelong Coach Chris Scott says midfielder Sam Menegola is set to return to the AFL team within the next fortnight.

The 27-year-old made an impressive return via the VFL and has travelled with the team to Western Australia this week.

“We are keen to get him back into the team. It is only a matter of whether it will be this week or next week, but we haven’t quite made up our minds yet,” Scott said at Wednesday’s press conference.

In another positive sign for the Cats, Zach Touhy and Gary Rohan are set to face Fremantle on Saturday after being managed last week.

“Zach Tuohy and Gary Rohan, we would expect to play so they’re in good shape.”

After being sidelined for the past 12 months, Nakia Cockatoo will make his highly-anticipated return via the VFL this weekend.

The news isn’t as good for Jordan Cunico, who has had a slight setback in his recovery from a broken ankle.

“Cunico looks like he is going to be a little longer than we had hoped.”

“He has had some achilles soreness off the back of that broken ankle.”

Finally, Zach Guthrie, Nathan Kreuger and Brandan Parfitt are not too far away from returning.

“We are a bit fortunate with the two boys which had lower leg injuries in the VFL out at Casey, so Zach Guthrie and Kreuger would expect to play in the short term.”

“Parfitt has a little bit of back issue that we don’t think will hold him up for too much longer.

“Obviously, he won’t play this week and he would be unlikely for next week, but after that we would expect him to come into the AFL team pretty quickly.”

The first ball will be bounced at Optus Stadium on Saturday at 2.35pm local time.
