GIANTS forwards Steve Johnson and Rory Lobb look likely to be fit for Saturday night's clash with Geelong, but coach Leon Cameron hasn't guaranteed them a recall.
Johnson (knee) was rested from last week's 21-point win over West Coast at Spotless Stadium, while Lobb (groin/hamstring) was a late withdrawal after failing to train with the main group the day before the match.
Triple premiership Cat Johnson is likely to face his former team in what could be his last game at Simonds Stadium before he retires at the end of the season, but Cameron might decide to keep his smaller forward mix, leaving Lobb on the outer.
Both players got through the Giants’ main session on Wednesday, but Cameron said given his side has won the past four matches, the pair aren't certainties to come straight back into the team.
"One, they've got to pull up really well, and two, we've got to select them," he said.
"There's no doubt there's some players (in the team) that have been in pretty good form over the past couple of weeks.
"It makes spots pretty tight but it's great that they're back in the mix and look like they're over their injuries."
Co-captain Phil Davis said the players are well aware of what is at stake when they take on Geelong in the last game of the regular season.
The equation is simple for the Giants; they'll seal home ground advantage throughout the finals if they can beat the Cats, but a loss would mean they give up second spot to Chris Scott's men, and could finish as low as fourth.
"It's a tough task but there's a lot to play for, a home qualifying final is a pretty nice prize," Davis said.
"We haven't won down there yet but I think we're as well prepared as ever to get the four points.
"Early on in our careers, realistically we probably weren't a chance to win these games, but now we're at a stage now where we've learnt to deal with the challenges that come with playing away, especially against good sides.
"Geelong have been a powerhouse over the years and it's a fortress down there, and we understand that, but we think we're in a good position to set up a home final."
