Gryan Miers has received a ‘massive tick’ from Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne for his 2019 season, with the AFL’s official number crunch predicting big things to come for the dreadlocked former Geelong Falcon in 2020.

Miers rated above average at his position for AFL Player Ratings, disposals, goals, score involvement and F50 groundball gets across 25 games last season, in what was essentially his debut outing at AFL level.

“They’ve absolutely unearthed one here; he’s going to be a long-term gem for them,” Hoyne told AFL.com.au’s The Data Game.

“What he did this year, really his first year in the system, he did spend the whole 2018 season in the VFL program, but his first year in the system at AFL was absolutely brilliant.”

“To rate above average in every key area relevant to his position is a massive tick for Gryan Miers. You would have thought in 2020 and beyond those numbers are probably even going to go to the next level.”

Miers was a key cog in Geelong’s swarming forward 50 game - the Cats’ groundball work in front of goal last season the best that Champion Data has ever recorded, according to Hoyne.

The 20-year-old Grovedale product averaged 15.4 disposals, 3.9 marks, and 2.7 inside 50’s last season after being taken with pick 57 at the 2017 NAB AFL National Draft.
