RUGGED Geelong defender Jed Bews says the Cats have their sights set on taking things all the way in 2019.

Bews has played in two preliminary finals already in his six seasons at the senior level, and is hungry to go one step further this time around.

“It’s just another challenge for us and we want to go the whole way, we don’t want to just finish up now and be happy with that. We want to win the whole thing,” Bews told RSN 927’s the Breakfast Club.

“There’s going to be 90 plus thousand there, it’s huge and I love playing in front of big crowds.

"It’s exciting when you run out, whether they’re booing or cheering you, it’s exciting to be in front of that many people. The pressure goes up the stakes are up but it is good fun – that’s why we do it."

Bews takes an uncomplicated approach to preparing himself for the pressures a preliminary final can bring.

“I always go around to the parents’ (place) the night before. That’s always good just to catch up with them.

“On the day I just sort of cruise around and do my own thing. If my housemates are around, I hang out with them and go out for a feed. I’m pretty casual I don’t try and work myself up too much. I just get to the ground and get into it."

Bews has more confidence in how his side is placed for the rigors of finals than he did before the Cats bowed out to Melbourne last year.

“I think we’re a better team this year,” he said.

“Last year, a lot of things had to go right for us to win. This year we feel like we’ve got a bit more control and are a chance to go all the way.

“Richmond are pretty bloody good and are going to be a tough team to beat. We’re going to have to be on our game, which is good."
