SUPERSTAR midfielder Patrick Dangerfield is officially a Geelong player after the Cats and Adelaide completed a blockbuster trade deal on Monday morning.

The Cats have traded their first- and second-rounds picks in the upcoming national draft (currently picks 9 and 28) to the Crows, along with yet-to-debut South Australian midfielder Dean Gore.

Adelaide has sent Dangerfield and its third-round pick (currently No. 50) to Geelong.

Dangerfield is the Cats' highest-profile recruit since Brad Ottens, who had been selected by Richmond with pick 2 in the 1997 draft, transferred across from the Tigers in late 2004.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who has played 154 AFL games, recently won the Crows' best and fairest and was their best player in their semi-final loss to Hawthorn.

Dangerfield later finished sixth in the Brownlow after polling 22 votes.

The Cats are now expected to turn their attention to their other trade and free agency targets, Scott Selwood, Lachie Henderson and Zac Smith.
