GEELONG has re-signed forward Daniel Menzel until the end of 2016.

After four knee reconstructions and 1450 days out of football, Menzel made his long-awaited return to the AFL in round 22 against Collingwood.

The 24-year-old was the shining light for the Cats that night, kicking four goals and collecting 20 disposals.

Menzel again lined up for the Cats in their round 23 win over the Adelaide Crows at Simonds Stadium.

Rookie–listed defender Cameron Delaney has also re-signed with the club for season 2016.

Delaney was selected by the club at pick 31 in the 2014 Rookie Draft but was restricted by a long-term toe injury throughout 2015.

The 23-year-old played two VFL games after returning late in the season.

General Manager of Football Steve Hocking said the club is pleased to give both players an opportunity to demonstrate their football talents.

“Both Dan and Cam have been through their fair share of injuries and setbacks, but we are really pleased we can show our faith in them. Both finished the year strongly and with a full pre-season we expect them to play the good footy they have shown they are capable of producing."

Max Rooke, who has been a development coach for the past four years following an outstanding playing career, has not had his contract extended and he will seek other opportunities.

“Max has been a great servant of the club, both as a player and in his role as a development coach. He has made an indelible contribution and we wish Max nothing but every success in his future,” Cats General manager of Football Steve Hocking said.

Rooke played 135 games with the Cats and was a key player in both the 2007 and 2009 premierships. He ventured into a coaching role in 2012 and has been working with the club’s young players over that period.
