Geelong Football Club Legends

The following are the guidelines for the consideration of “Club Legend” status. These are guidelines only and there is no strict criteria for the nomination or awarding of a “Club Legend”:

  1. Members of the Hall of Fame can be considered for elevation to Legend status.  Any nominations for Legend should come from this list (see appendix 3);

  2. Players, coaches and administrators may nominate for “Club Legend”. In the instance where a player also becomes a coach, and/or an administrator of the Geelong Football Club, the combined record of all appointments in all areas will be considered in respect of any nomination;

  3. A primary consideration for the status of “Club Legend” will be that the person has made a significant, positive impact on the Club by demonstrating outstanding performance in any of the following aspects:
  • Ability;
  • Integrity;
  • Sportsmanship;
  • Character;
  • Courage;
  • Leadership;
  • Length of service to the Club.
  1. And will in all respects reflect “The Geelong Way”.
  1. In addition, the following will also be considered:
  • Best and fairest awards & performance;
  • Captaincy;
  • Brownlow Medal or AFLW best and fairest awards & performance;
  • Number of games played;
  • Premierships

            A “Club Legend” will be a true champion in every respect. This award is the highest honour.

TIMING

The timing for the process of “Club Legend” is as follows:

  1. The induction of a Club Legend will not take place until after five (5) years, after a player has retired from the game, at AFL level. If the player should play for another AFL club after his period at Geelong, the induction as a Club Legend will not take place for a minimum of 5 years after the completion of his playing career, at AFL level.
  1. In the case where a coaching record is part of the considerations, the coach also must have been retired from the game at AFL level, for a minimum period of five (5) years.
  1. In the case of an administrator, considerations can commence upon completion of his / her term / period of employment.

Note: Service as a volunteer does not constitute “employment”.

  1. Notwithstanding all of the above, a nomination can be made and considered at any time, if the Board should so determine.

Nominations can be submitted at any time to history@geelongcats.com.au
