2012 Geelong Cats Season Launch


The 2012 Geelong Cats Season Launch and Hall of Fame saw over 700 guests join together at Crown Palladium to kick start season 2012.

With all players in attendance and an intimate setting for the Presidents address, the night celebrated all things Geelong and looked into what could become another magnificent season.

After hearing from a humble Geelong Cats Coach Chris Scott, CEO Brian Cook and a couch grilling from Billy Brownless to the new Recruits and Rookies, Two more of Geelong's amazing era of stars were inducted into the Club's Hall of Fame.

Steve Johnson and James Kelly, both of whom were drafted by the Cats in the 2001 "super draft", were honoured in front of a packed house at the Club's season launch on Wednesday night.

The two triple premiership players join other recent Cats inductees such as Gary Ablett Jnr, Jimmy Bartel, Paul Chapman, Joel Corey, Corey Enright, Tom Harley, Cameron Ling, Darren Milburn, Cameron Mooney, Matthew Scarlett and David Wojcinski.

To be included in the Club's Hall of Fame players must satisfy certain criteria. Automatic inclusion goes to any player who has played 200 games for the Club. Alternatively, players must meet five of the following 14 categories:

1. A period of service spanning 10 years service as a player, and or coach. (nb consideration given to injuries at 50%)
2. Captain 2 years
3. Best and Fairest Winner
4. Placed in the 2nd or 3rd position of the Best and Fairest count on 3 occasions
5. 300 Goals in career
6. AFL Leading Goal Kicker
7. 100 games
8. Premiership Player
9. State representative for a minimum of 3 games in the respective State of Origin team, and /or selected for International games
10. Selected as an ‘All Australian.’
11. Selected in top three of Brownlow Medal Count
12. Club Leading Goal Kicker in two seasons (minimum of 50 goals on two occasions)
13. A “Team of the Century” nominee
14. A player can be added at the Committees discretion.

Kelly satisfied four categories by playing more than 100 games for the Club, 10 years plus service, All Australian nomination and being a premiership player.

Johnson achieved his through six categories; 10 years plus service, over 100 games, Club leading goalkicker on two occasions, 300 career goals, All Australian and Premiership player.
