Outlook
The 2011 finals series could well be remembered as the defining period of Hawkins’ career. He went from a back-up ruckman at the start of the year to a key forward battling to hold his spot before becoming Geelong’s dominant force in the finals. Started with an eye-catching effort against Hawthorn in the qualifying final, backed up with a strong display in the preliminary final against West Coast and then unleashed himself on Grand Final day. Took seven contested marks, kicked three goals and created havoc for Collingwood’s defence. Has always been a talent, but it could be the confidence boost he needed to become an elite power forward.
