Graham was recruited from East Perth and became one of the greatest players to have worn the navy blue and white hoops, and in fact, such was the nature of his play he succeeded in revolutionising the game itself with his amazing talents, not only as an all round champion, but he is regarded as the greatest exponent of handball in the history of the game. He would handball as far as some players kicked the ball and created a new style of play at Geelong. Farmer’s co-operation with Bill Goggin was legendary. A best on ground performance in the 1963 Grand Final with his mental and physical approach to that game was a tribute to his great ability – a display thrilling many thousands of spectators. He was a strong mark, and his kicking precise and accurate, his ability to develop a team approach to his play created opportunities all around the ground for his teammates, and had a positive effect on their play. His efforts overall were inspirational. Graham ‘Polly’ Farmer left his mark on Australian Football as one of the greatest ever to have played the game.
