Bill was recruited from North Geelong and like another famous rover before him, Tommy Quinn, Goggin was a master of the stab pass. He had explosive pace, courage and wonderful ball control. His co-operation with Graham Farmer was radar – like suck was their understanding. To see both of these champions in action warmed the hearts of Geelong supporters. It was also a delight to see him burst from the centre, bounce the ball a couple of times, and kick a bullet-like stab pass to a fast leading Doug Wade, and with deadly accuracy land the ball with a thump, onto his chest. The standard of his play was consistently at the highest level and he had the ability to perform at his best under pressure situations. Invariably his career consisted of numerous highlights, his outstanding skills place him to the forefront as one of the great rovers to have played Australian Football.
