Outlook

Won Geelong’s 2012 best and fairest after a dominant season, but struggled to reach the same heights in 2013. His major problem was a bulging disc in his back that curtailed his mobility and took a toll on his confidence. Still booted 49 goals in 22 games – the best haul of any Cats player – but the club needs to find a solution to his back problems if he is to restore his reputation as one of the best key forwards in the competition.

Dale Amos' player review for 2013

His back injury obviously hindered his output during the year, especially when compared with the really lofty standards he set last year when he won the 'Carji' Greeves Medal and was All Australian. We felt he played better towards the end of the year. His form at the start of the year was actually quite good as well, but his back issues became worse during the middle of the year and really hampered his performance. He remains a critical player for us. We're optimistic that he can manage the back problem through the pre-season and in the future. Hopefully we're on the right path with that.
