What a great weekend it was for the mighty Cats.

The AFL team returned to form in style with a great win over the Western Bulldogs on Friday night, then the VFL Cats burst into life with their first ever win over Footscray on Saturday afternoon.

Friday night's victory, in front of the new Brownlow Stand, was notable for many reasons. The one being talked about the most is Geelong's effort in laying a club-record 134 tackles.

Mitch Duncan led the way with 18 tackles, while Scott Selwood make a huge statement in his first AFL game of the season by laying 17.

It was a dramatic turnaround from the tackle-free performance against Essendon the previous weekend.

Then there was the performance of the one and only Patrick Dangerfield, who finished with 36 disposals, 12 tackles, 10 clearances and four goals.

Suddenly, the Cats are back in the good books with their fans and the media.

They are third on the ladder, with a 6-3 record. You'd take that after round nine in any season.
