Chris Scott caught up with Cats TV for this week’s Tweet the Coach, where he spoke about Jimmy Bartel’s new role away from the centre and the best way to instill the importance of relentless footy.

This year Scott has rewarded Bartel for his flexibility and hard work with a permanent position in the backline. He believes Bartel is much more valuable in defence now that there are a variety of Cats available to run in the centre.

“It’s probably more a reflection of his success as a defender this year,” Scott told Cats TV.

“I thought at times last year we moved Jim around too much and not letting him settle in any one position and that’s a reflection of his ability to play all parts of the ground, but we think his best footy has been as a defender this year.”

“We’ve got the option of pushing him forward into the midfield but at the moment our centre bounce guys are pretty competent players and we don’t feel like we need to upset the rest of Jim’s game by throwing him in there.”

With only two Rounds to go before finals, Scott says the Cats are preparing themselves for the high intensity of finals footy.

Scott agrees that the relentless hunt for the footy will pave the way to success, and he says the best way to instill this is to practice.

“Well we’re always emphasising the importance of that but talking about it is one thing, showing the vision is a little bit better than talking about it but actually practicing it is the most important thing of all,” Scott said.

“We have a carefully managed training program, especially going into finals, but that spread and out number of the contest is something we’ll keep working on hopefully all the way through to the Grand Final.

Scott also discusses the benefits of having the Cats VFL side in finals and adapting to the ground's new grand stand.
